Cholmondeley Castle 2024 Race Report
24.06.24

Over 1,300+ athletes and their supporters joined us in Cheshire for a truly amazing weekend of triathlon, multisport, swimming and running!

Athletes travelled from far and wide to enjoy a weekend filled of swim bike and run. We hosted over 35 different races throughout the weekend with participants ages aged 8 – 78!

The sun shone as our competitors took to the courses with our new bike course proving very popular with athletes across all distances. The events village was buzzing with spectators who had come to see athletes crossing the finish line in front of the stunning Cholmondeley Castle.

The castle really is a stunning place to race, made all the more special by loud and loyal supporters dotted around the courses cheering!

DAY ONE - 22 JUNE

First up on our programme was Sprint Plus and Sprint Triathlon races, followed by Duathlon, Aquabike and Aquathlon events. Congrats to winners Gregory Moore and Emma Jefferys of the Sprint! The sunny morning session was rounded off with Super Sprint, and Starter Sprint Triathlons and the Swim Series.

Well done to winners of the 5k swim Ashley Hogg and Holly Milnes (wetsuits) and Bradley Harvey and Erica Slater-Pearson (non-wetsuits).

In the afternoon, all eyes were on the youth events. We hosted 3 different age groups, all of which included athletes competing in the TENW Junior Series.

MIXED TEAM RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Also in the afternoon, we kicked off the British Mixed Team Relay Championships. Prior to the event, we invited all BTF registered clubs to come and race for national glory! Teams of two males and two females fought tooth and nail for the top spot. Each athlete completed a 250m swim, 5k cycle and 1.5k run. Well done to team NTC Sharks from Newcastle (Staffs) Triathlon Club who won the event!

We’d also like to congratulate all the non-club teams that took part! There were many fantastic displays of teamwork and you should all be proud of yourselves!

DAY TWO - 23 JUNE

8am sharp on Sunday morning our Gauntlet participants took to the start line of our famous half iron distance, a 1.9k swim, 90k bike and 21.1k run. The first competitor back was Daniel Readman and first woman was Francesca Gardner.

Shortly after were the standard distance athletes, with over 280 athletes stepping up to the plate. Congratulations to winners of the standard distance triathlon Gabriele Grimaldi and Joanna Connelley.

Standard distance duathletes, aquathletes and aquabikers raced their hearts out! Well done to all those who took part in the World Championships Standard Duathlon qualifier.

The Run Series saw record figures join the marathon, half marathon and 10K races! Congratulations to marathon winners Jaime Gutiérrez Vicente and Emily Davis.

A few words from Brian

Race Director Brian Adcock said “It was amazing to see so many people come from far and wide to descend on the beautiful estate of Cholmondeley Castle for a glorious weekend in the Cheshire countryside. The number of juniors was fantastic this year and it’s so brilliant to see so many future champions enjoying this fabulous sport. Once again the Mixed Team Relay delivered a fantastic nail-biting race. The atmosphere in the events village was electric as the teams battled it out on the course. Thanks to all those that helped make this weekend happen. Bring on 2025!”
